Piece by piece, stitch by stitch. Made slowly and intuitively, Selina embroiders expressive marks both by hand and machine using organic cotton thread through 100% wool felt in a vibrant yet harmonised colour palette, to create a visual sense of balance and energy. Each shape is then reverse appliquéd by hand.

The approach to this BALANCE series was inspired by research into the Japanese philosophy of ‘Ma’, which represents the importance of negative space— a pause or space between two objects or moments in time that, in turn, evokes a feeling of balance. This philosophy is an integral part of Selina's work as a textile artist and designer.
